This week, we hosted about two dozen representatives from industry, government, and academia for the first ARIA project symposium held here at Carnegie Mellon. The Northeastern University team members also came to town, and we all got together for the day long meeting.
In the morning, we presented the latest research results on the ARIA project. All of the students had an opportunity to show their current work and ideas for the future. We even showed our initial results on analyzing the Bowker Overpass data set, which we collected earlier in the fall.
The afternoon featured presentations from some of our industrial attendees. We learned about current needs and issues in infrastructure inspection from several groups, including the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and United Technologies. We also had an opportunity to discuss as a group some of the challenges that industry is facing and to receive feedback about our research. These suggestions and ideas will help guide our research in the coming year.
